Wanda, the adorable little main character, with powder-puff ponytails springing out of the top of her head, has been studying her Grandpa for some time now. He's not your average Grandpa you see. She has made up her mind that he actually is a dinosaur. He's so tall, and green, and he roars (not snores) when he's awake, and the pièce de résistance HE HAS A TAIL. Oh my! She tries to point these features out to her family and friends but to her utter amazement they don't believe her. How absurd t [...]

I've actually read this before - we have it in the shop where I work - and find it lovely. So I decided to check it out on the grandchildren (9, 8, and 6 - none of us are prejudiced against picture books just because they are aimed at younger readers) and they all gave it the thumbs up. James enjoyed the bratty brother page (yes, he has his own tendencies to brattiness); Ivy thought the sister poking her chips into the fan was the best part (and another yes, that could well be something Ivy woul [...]

Oh my gosh! Have you ever stopped to think how little kids see us as Grandparents? I remember when my oldest use to play with the wrinkles on MY Grandma's face. It was funny to me, a young mother "Selena; what are you DOING?!) (Today I would be mortified. I'm sorry Gran'ma! Wrinkles aren't funny!! I know that now!)In this adorable book a little girl has been watching her grandpa for a long time, and she is almost certain that he is a dinosaur. So why does nobody believe her? Why can’t anyone e [...]

Wanda knows her family is odd, but she isn’t referring to her sister, who hand-feeds potato chips to the fan; or her brother, who, aside from being a brat, uses the ceiling fan to ride his bike. (Hmm, I think banning fans might be a good move, except no one considers these behaviors as odd-worthy.) Mom and Dad’s behavior is equally non-normal-normal. No, the oddity of Wanda’s family falls to Grandpa. Grandpa is a dinosaur. My Grandpa is a Dinosaur is an unusual—dare I say odd—tale about [...]

Wanda is a clever kid, she has noticed something that nobody else has - her Grandpa is a dinosaur! I love that even though she can't get anybody to believe her she perseveres with her belief and finally talks to Grandpa himself. This book made me laugh out loud. There is a sly humor running through the story that adults will really appreciate and children may or may not perceive. I wonder what my Grandpa would have thought

The illustrations in this book are fun in framed cells on each page. The story is from Wanda's p.o.v as a young child who sees Grandpa as old, dressing like a dinosaur with a tail hole in pants, having a special car seat being followed by paleontologists, etc. but Wanda loves him and has fun with him. And at the end Grandpa doesn't live with Wanda's family and is taken back to his home. Fun illustrations and story to read aloud or at bedtime to young children.

Love the illustrations with all their additional narrative, and the story develops nicely with the idea well realised at the end. Cool book

Not a storytime book, but might be a fun read with kids at home. There are some funny things in the illustrations. I especially love the people on the roller-coaster.
